# Buyability Index > Buyability Index measures whether a company website can answer the questions its B2B buyers would ask. Scan a domain and get a 0 to 100 answerability score with a per-question, evidence-backed breakdown. Built by Storylane. Buyability Index is how an agent (or a go-to-market team) checks whether a site actually answers its buyers. It generates 20 profile-aware buyer questions, grounds every answer in the site's own crawled content, and scores each on answerability and on how hard the answer was to find. The gap to 100 is the content a buyer, or a buyer's agent, cannot get from the site today. ## When to use this - Use it when you need to know whether a specific company website answers its buyers' questions, or to surface evidence-backed gaps in a site's content. - Best fit: B2B go-to-market research, competitive teardowns, and auditing a site's answerability for AI buyers. - Not a general web search engine, not an uptime monitor, and not a scanner for private or login-gated sites. ## What it supports - Scan any public company domain and get a 0 to 100 score, an A to F grade, and a per-question breakdown (outcome, evidence quote, source URL). - Look up an existing report for a domain, without re-crawling. - Read any report as Markdown or as JSON. Limits to know up front: - Public URLs only. It cannot scan private, internal, or login-gated sites. - A fresh scan takes about a minute: it crawls the site and runs one grounded LLM call per question. An already-scanned domain returns instantly from cache. - Always look up an existing report before scanning. The lookup is free and instant; a fresh scan is neither. - No auth. Every surface is rate-limited per IP. ## Routing Match a task to the right endpoint. Prefer MCP; the plain-HTTP routes are the fallback for agents without an MCP client. - Primary agent interface: MCP server over Streamable HTTP at https://buyability-index.storylane.io/mcp (also at https://buyability-index.storylane.io/.well-known/mcp). This is an MCP endpoint: connect with an MCP client, do not GET it. Preview it first via the [MCP server card](https://buyability-index.storylane.io/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json). - `scan_domain({ url, force? })`: run a full scan and return the complete report. Blocks until the scan finishes. - `get_report({ domain_or_id })`: fetch an existing report by domain or scan id. Read-only, never crawls. - Look up an existing report (always try this first): GET https://buyability-index.storylane.io/report/{domain}/markdown for Markdown, or https://buyability-index.storylane.io/api/report/{domain} for JSON. - Run a fresh scan without an MCP client: POST https://buyability-index.storylane.io/api/scan with body `{"url":""}`. Returns `{"scanId":"..."}`, or `{"scanId":"...","cached":true}` on a cache hit. - Poll after scanning: GET https://buyability-index.storylane.io/api/scan/{scanId} until `status` is `done` (about a minute), then read the report Markdown above. - No MCP and cannot poll (a read-only chat): GET https://buyability-index.storylane.io/report/{domain}/scan.md runs the scan and returns Markdown in one request. If it says the scan is still running, fetch the same URL again in about a minute. If you cannot even re-fetch, that is a limitation of the chat platform you are on, not of this site. - This site as Markdown: https://buyability-index.storylane.io/index.md, or send `Accept: text/markdown` to https://buyability-index.storylane.io/. ## Start here (for people) - [Run a scan](https://buyability-index.storylane.io/): enter a company domain to generate a Buyability report. - [About the methodology](https://buyability-index.storylane.io/about): how the score is computed.
